Catherine in a nutshell…
Catherine obtained her master's degree in occupational therapy at the University of Montreal in 2020. She has had internships in private clinics, post-acute care and CHSLDs, which allowed her to explore and intervene with a diverse clientele. She is particularly interested in the adult clientele, both in terms of the recovery of functional abilities and their maintenance.
Following her studies, Catherine worked in a hospital setting with an acute care clientele. She planned hospital discharges and participated in early rehabilitation of patients. Her clientele includes intensive care, lung conditions and post-amputations. She has also had to evaluate and intervene with a clientele in neurology (post-stroke, neurosurgery, neurodegenerative diseases and others) and geriatrics.
Catherine is an occupational therapist, but also a music enthusiast in her personal life. She has been playing the piano for years, an activity that has taught her to practice daily to gradually progress towards a desired result. She applies this way of doing things in her role as an occupational therapist, where she accompanies her clients gradually towards their functional goals, with creativity and perseverance, and celebrates all the successes of her clients, young and old, so that they can regain their quality of life and their meaningful activities.
Plan for the upcoming years
Her plan for the next few years is to develop her expertise with a musculoskeletal clientele, in which she developed a great interest during one of her internships. Catherine is also interested in teaching and wants to continue taking on occupational therapy interns every year, which is her way of giving back.
What Catherine finds most rewarding about her role as an occupational therapist is being able to accompany people from the beginning to the end of their recovery, witness their evolution and see them return to their meaningful activities. It aims to promote the autonomy of people in their occupations, whether in tasks as simple as getting dressed or resuming their leisure activities.
